By following our care tips you'll be able to enjoy your candle for longer:
LIGHTING YOUR WICK:
Keep hemp trimmed to 0.5cm to prevent smoking or mushrooming. This helps to ensure your candle burns cleanly each time. To light the candle and hold at an angle, with wooden wicks allow the flame to travel across the width of the wick. Wooden wicks may fail to light first time, or the candle may not burn very strongly. Extinguish the flame and trim the wick and relight it until it ignites again. With the wood wicks, you can use your fingers to remove the charcoal ends this allows your candle to burn more cleanly and strongly.
SIT WITH YOUR CANDLE:
Make sure that the first burn is a good couple of hours and that the wax melts to the edge of the container, this usually takes around 1 to 2 hours for small candles but can take longer. If you don’t allow your candle to burn to the container edge on the first burn, the candle will ‘tunnel’ down the wick meaning that your candle will not last as long and wax will be wasted. If this happens, the wick can eventually drown in the wax and won't stay lit. Follow the care instructions on the base of your candle.
APPRECIATE THE MOMENT:
A candle is a special thing, igniting the flame is a signal to find a quiet moment and take some time out. To get the most from your candle only burn for up to 2 hours at a time, when the wax has melted to the container sides. If you burn for longer than this the candle will use more wax than it can burn and will release smoke into the room. If you burn your candle for too long it will burn faster.
Never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.
